Is there any way to satisfy the Extend All step without removing the M4 from the frame? I’m trying to calibrate my M4 again and I’m experiencing an issue like [Calibration keeps failing](https://forums.maslowcnc.com/t/calibration-keeps-failing/22859) … But each time it fails, I have to remove the M4 from the frame because, unless I do so, I can’t rock the black plastic belt ends back and forth in order to get the belts to start extending, as depicted in [@bar’s calibration video](https://youtu.be/nvgfBJi9kfI?si=JczpnZRDggIKUb-d&t=98).

Thanks in advance for any help.

No, because the important step isn’t extending, it’s retracting to a known
state. Only after you know where you are can you then track the belt lenghts
through extending them.

Does the Retract All have to retract the belts all the way in?

Yes, retract all pulling them all the way in sets the “zero” position on the belts so that then when they extend we know how long they are

yes, that’s the zero point. until that is done, the machine doesn’t know where
the belts are.

Idk if this is going to be helpful, but when i was working on firmware and had to run retract-extend like a 100 times a day, I attached a hook hanging on a piece of belt to the top of my frame, so i can “hang” my maslow on that hook while it retracts and extends. This way I wouldnt have to take it off the frame every time, I would just suspend it on the hook, than just hook one of the top belts to the anchor and let the gravity extend it. This saved me a lot of time, but i literally probably ran it 100 times a day at some point.

That is helpful and a good idea, thanks!

@Noreaster I made a sled for the Maslow to reduce the pain of getting it of and on the frame.
It’s basically the same idea as what @RomanG suggested, just in case your interested in making one yourself I’ll share my link 😉

My frame is vertical, which requires a step ladder to remove the belts. The challenge of putting on the first belt while holding the Maslow in one hand and trying to secure the belt end into the corner with the other hand was a real PITA. Also, when the Maslow is of the frame, I cannot place it anywhere to complete the entire process. This led me to the idea of…

@marzsman Thank you for the suggestion! I ended up just going with the fixed lash/strap/rope idea, but I’ll keep the sled in mind. 👍
