maybe go back to the original design and use a soldering iron to heat press the nuts into the tighter holes?

Even the original design has this flaw. Those walls just need thickened up. I’m not great at CAD, but I’m working on it now.

I got the walls on the post thickened up and it printed good. I’m going to install it today and see how it works. And if they work good, I will post it up on here.

Here is the latest version of the belt guard with my tweaks.

The original design was based on the injection molded version so it makes sense that we might need to thicken things up a little for 3D printing

I’m still seeing gaps in the tweaked belt guard v5 but it might be something with the STL. Cura indicates there’s some “missing or extraneous surfaces”.

Slicer sees it too, but will slice it… the problem in the area of the wall outside the outer nut pockets and they’re only a single wall thinckness with my slicing settings for a .4mm nozzle. I chucked it through a couple online stl fixers and. [Repair 3D STL File - NanoDLP](https://www.nano3dtech.com/repair-3d-stl-file/) got it to be manifold.

Yes, it still may not be a perfect file. As I said, I’m not great in CAD, but it printed fine and strong for me.

Had this problem - had to tighten them in before I connected. Also broke the mount closer to the router on at least one.

On the ones I installed, I would have liked to have an extrusion connecting the two supports on the right in this picture - like the original ones have. When tightened a half turn too much the “wings” closer to the spool lifted away and were no longer parallel. I’m sure it was my ham fisted over tightening.

Hey guys. What length screw are you using to get these new belt guards in?

Thanks!

@Gabe_Merrill These were removed after version 1. Maybe @bar can let us know if it can be added back or if it will interfere with fitment?

Hey Bar, any progress/update on this feature? Should I add it as a feature request to the github page? I have been holding off running my machine until there are some mechanisms in place that help me not make a mistake.

Its still on my todo list, but it’s after the calibration stuff which seems to be the place that most folks are stuck.

I would recommend giving it another go, I haven’t heard much in the way of issues with the Retract All process so it could be a fluke occurrence.

I would give each belt a little tug to make sure there isn’t a bunch of lose slack on the belt and then try running Retract All

For those having challenges managing all the belts on retract all… I set mine on my trash can (wheelie bin) with a belt hanging over each side and let gravity give me a hand… made it much easier to keep track of.

@bar @fireslayer26 Is there a step file available for the Belt Guard stl?
I’m getting weird slicing issues and want to give it a try to fix these in the original model. If not, I can try to recreate the model from the mesh, but that’s a lot of extra work 🙂

I am using the v5 belt guards, and I’ve notice that one of the three nuts isn’t captive.

The issue is that it spins when tightening the machine screw- I ended up grabbing it with a pair of needle nose pliers (not actually intended for this application, but functional).

@bar Please could we get an official approved file for this? I don’t want to keep reassembling my arms but want a file that has been tested and approved by you.

Many thanks!
