Maslow Getting Tangeled

I recently got my dad a Maslow CNC for fathers day, we set it up probably a week or two ago, and where starting to calibrate it. Every… Single… Time… it tangles. Any ideas on how to fix this? We’ve taken it apart, and re did the spools, all spools are pretty tight, and this has probably happened 2-3 times.

A few questions to see where you are with the Maslow.
Which version of software are you running?
What retraction force is set?
Spools should rotate easily on both halves of the Arm when the idler gear is not engaged.
If you still have Calibrate as an option, it is most likely an older version of software. The newer version calls Find Anchors.

The retraction force is 900, and the software is 1.04

Suggest you upgrade to the latest software

You will also need to replace the maslow, yaml file as there was a major change around V1.09

I realise you may have tried all these things already, but it gives us a base understanding of where you are at moment.
Can you put a copy of the Serial Log here (or cut and paste if it won’t let you yet)?
Are the cables to the sensors ethernet type (this will indicate if is a Maslow4.0 or Maslow4.1)?
if you click Retract All, do all the belts full retract?
If you then click Extend All can you pull the belts out until the fan motor stops?
Clicking retract all again should draw them all back in again with values for each arm in the serial log less than 1.

I was following the last link you set, then this happened.

What were you doing? Have you got the serial log file?
Were you cutting or jogging the Maslow or Finding Anchors?

Finding anchors, I didn’t get the file.

Can you clear the tangle?
Is the belt damaged?
Have you updated to the latest software versions for firmware.bin and index.html.gz?
When running Find Anchors, it should only have loose belts for the initial 6 positions, after that they should stay reasonably tight. You have to watch what it is doing and if too much belt comes out, then hit the power before it tangles.
I think it is a good idea to measure the distance between the anchor points manually and enter those values in the maslow.yaml file prior to running Find Anchors. Theoretically this is not necessary but in my experience, it helps get the initial settings right.
