Building a Maslow with Stepper Motors

Yes I am using my leadscrew optical switch assembly I made. They are only active during homing at mid workspace but the flag can continue through to reach the entire workspace. My homing method is to set home switches approx in the middle of travel. Home the machine. Then manually move to a known position and correct the value after the homing macro G10 P0 L20 X1198.75 Y1195.363. Calculate the offset needed so that when I move to the known point after homing the chain lengths are correctly indicated in the code sender.

Hi David

I could set to micro stepping of 1 which would give me about 261/mm or .003mm per step which is fine.

I have not had any issues so far with losing steps as far as I can tell and have run 3hr jobs. So until I have an issue I will continue with 8. If an issues comes up I will note it here.

The nice thing is even it is is out if whack a few step I can home any time I want and get back to a know state so teh error won’t compound of days or weeks.

Dave

what I was meaning is that if you set microsteps to 8, you don’t actually move
the same distance for all 8 steps. it’s 8 levels of power applied between the
actual steps, which is great for smooting slow movements (making them less
jerky), but not good if you actually care about the exact distance of each
movement.
