The Default Frame

Ah. That explains it.

Thank you, bar.

Hi. Late to the party but still.
Has there been any attempt to put the frame on the wall to save space when not in use?
Thinking of top-hinging one to swing out at the floor with some kind of standoffs.
Any thoughts of why it is not a good idea ?

yes, many people have done this with great success.

How much play does one have with regards to plywood sheet thickness ?
At what thickness divination will the chain start to behave erratically ?

3/4 inch is 19.05 mm - I can get 18 mm easily.

Probably 50 mm or so.

what you want to do is to balance the sled by making the ring be at the height
above the sled that will have the sled hang straight when supported by the ring

then you want to adjust either the motor mounts and/or the thickness of the
supports behind the workpiece so that the chains are parallel to the workpiece.

chains and sprockets are designed to handle a max is a 3 degree angle between
the chain and the sprocket, getting close to that point will make it likely to
have the chain skip.

For the frame itself, the design is meant to be independent of the thickness of the plywood. 18mm should work great.
