I’ve finally got a space cleared to build an old Maslow v1 I’ve had sitting here waiting. I’ve tried finding the original frame guides but the oldest I’ve been able to locate were for the v2. I realize that people hear have created tons of different variants but wanted to find out what some recommendations might be. (I could feasibly build the v2 frame and just jerry-rig the connections where I don’t have the required kit brackets.)
The only limitation I have right now is that my space has a 7ft ceiling height, so my verticals can’t overshoot that.
I do have a custom z-axis planned, so if the original motors and chains haven’t changed much from release to release I’m hoping that my build isn’t considered too far behind.
Knowing what you do, would you recommend I stick with this v1 frame?
The v2 frame looks like it has the kicker on the ground itself an I wonder if that doesn’t perhaps add some stability?
I also noticed that the new V4 instructions are just for a rigid frame with pairs of plates and t-nuts to hold everything in place. That entire setup could obv be mounted to anything that gives you the angle you’re looking for.
Seeing how you’re the guru, any insights into your own setup?
The frame requirements for the Maslow 1 and Maslow 4 are pretty different since the two chains design had the motors in the corners and just two chains, while the Maslow 4 has the motors on the sled and four belts. The original Maslow frame design just needed to be rigid in one direction (between the motors) while Maslow 4 needs to be rigid between each pair of anchor points.
@bar cam we add a ‘are you looking for instruction for the two chain maslow?’
link to the maslow 4 web page that points at this? it’s a recurring question.
I think I may build the V2 frame for my V1 system since the flat legs will give me a bit more opportunity for shimming if need be.
I’m probably only missing the angles stud mount brackets. I could easy make wooden wedges to go under the horizontal studs. Would you know the correct angle that brackets normally hold the studs at? Is it something like 15 degrees?
