Adding some more info for myself:
- The encoder steps can be set in the advanced settings in GC (default 7560)
, via the $20=7560 command and in the groundcontrol.ini -> zencodersteps = 7560.0
- PPR of the encoder needs to be multiplied with the gear-ratio
- Depending on the manufacturer there can be confusion between PPR and CPR. More info here https://www.cui.com/blog/what-is-encoder-ppr-cpr-and-lpr

“The equation you are looking for is 16 counts per revolution of the motor * 270 rotations of the motor to get one rotation of the output shaft * 4 for quadriture encoding so:
16 x 270 x 4 = 17,280 steps/revolution”
