M4 Maintenance Stand

I really wanted a stand to use when working on the M4, or just doing the rehanging dance. So here is what I came up with.

It’s a two part 3D print, with both parts the same. There’s a small amount of support material required for the dovetail joint, which is a bit tricky to pick out, but my objective was for minimum waste, which I think I achieved.

Here’s the STEP file if you want it. I printed it out in PLA with 10% gyroid infill, seems plenty strong enough.

You print 2 of them, clean out the dovetail joints, and press together.

Very cool - I made something out of cardboard, but I’ll have to check this out! I like the lip to catch the edge of the supports.

Yeah, a small touch that I thought would help stability

I had one printed today, the first one w/o supports so the dove-tails aren’t tight, but it worked fine anyway. Second one wasn’t done when I left for the day. However, I intend to just drill a few holes in the cross bars and screw it down to a piece of plywood as a bit changing stand. I’ll post a pic when I’m back on site.

With that in mind, if you added 2 holes and countersunk heads in the cross piece it could be used stand-alone, or screwed to the bench/etc.

I could, but that was something I was trying to avoid. I reckon just drill a hole or two through each flange and screw it down.

@md8n, love the idea but I don’t have a printer around to make one… if only there was another device that could cut it out from wood.

Here is a step file for it.
