Maslow 4 - The next generation of Maslow

Can you post the URL to that please

@bar, does this version have the ability to turn the motor on/off?

I’m wanting to build a plasma cutter version of this and instead of the Z moving, it will be a matter of turning the torch on and off.

that sounds awesome. I guess you will use a metal sled filled with water to cool it down?

one thing we will want people to help with is getting the maslow specific
changes upstream into fluidNC

David Lang

probably a metal sled, but no water on the sled. Proper plasma cutting (hard to
do without CMC doesn’t generate that much heat in the material you are cutting.
you could probably get away with a thin layer of metal over plastic, but I’d
probably do a simple metal sled.

Yes in that fluidNC has that ability built in and there are exposed IO pins for controlling anything. I haven’t personally done it, but I believe it shouldn’t be an issue at all. I’m not even sure you’d need to change the firmware, fluidNC has a nice config file that lets you control most things about the machine without needing to edit the code itself.

Thanks for the link.

With regard to this:

Before that, I’d recommend looking into this

the two problems go hand-in-hand, the more commits you carry vs upstream, the
more work it is to integrate upstrem fixes.

I’m not too worried about re-integration because the Maslow elements are pretty separate, but it is on the todo list. The big issue is that the main FluidNC branch doesn’t support the S3 processor yet, they’re still on the S2

Where is the S3 stuff in the Repo? Now that I have a couple of them I’d like to have a play around

so for the purposes of Maslow4, should we just consider your fork the “master” and submit out commits to your repo?

My wife is already texting me suggestions for M4 projects.

At least for now, Yes.

based on past experience, that may change in the future, but for now Bar’s fork
is the maslow master

Sounds like job (and new toy) security!

FNC can be a fast moving target with a release every few weeks. I need to get back to my FNC rotary axis machine (too busy roughing out wood bowl blanks on the non-CNC lathe, plus hurrying the never-ending shop build for a maslow4), which hasn’t been updated since last summer.

Guess I’m feeling a little let down, having not received the “insider” notification that I singed up for and now that’s closed on Kickstarter.

Probably for the best. So many projects.

Is the Kickstarter closed??

I just checked and it looks like it is still possible to back the project.

You didn’t get the email? I’m sorry! I’m not sure how that could have happened :slightly_frowning_face:

@jonatpridesleap is right, it’s not too late. Just the insider version is closed.

Hello everyone, I have a question. With the management program supplied with the maslow 4, would it be possible to add a command to feel the piece to obtain the alignment coordinates of the piece to be machined?
