Disconnecting the belts every time you need to connect and running a retract and extend will get lame very quickly.
Could we set up a parking location in one of the corners with a barrier for the belts to pull the M4 against to allow the M4 to start in a known position each time?
I haven’t finished building my frame yet but the photo gives an idea of what I mean.
Used the term park instead of home to avoid confusion.
having a parking position above the top center would get the sled out of the way
and still allow for known positioning.
As I said elsewhere, I think we can have it remember position anyway, but this
is a good option as well.
do a normal retract, then extend and retract to the new stop and the machine can
calculate what the remainder it (there was talk about wanting to support extra
fixed length anyway to be able to handle anchors outside the normal distance)

Yes, totally. I want to get the basics dialed in so that the foundation is all working well before we add to it, but that should be doable.
In general I think that we can do a much better job of reducing the number of times you need to retract and extend.
Wasn’t it @Roman that suggested clamping stops or clips on the belt so it could do a retract all against the four clips, one at a time? The clips would be clamped on the belt so that they were each just off each of the corners so that the Maslow wouldn’t drive all the way off the spoil board. I thik they would have to be installed after you had already done an extend all / retract all without them, and then the clip locations would be calibrated.
