For the M4 I was curious if something like this would work for the arm to ride/roll on the spindle rather than having a sleeve. There seems to be many Id/od to choose from. What do you think @md8n ? (your the only one I can think of using a spindle)

it’s possible, you actually want two layers of bearings, the movement between
the arm and the spindle, and the movement between the spool and the arm.
As it is, the machine moves slowly enough that the friction doesn’t generate a
lot of heat, and with the 4.1 update, the arms are made of Delron (a very
slippery plastic)

In general, yeah.
But to back up what @dlang said, there’s not a lot of friction taking place at that part of the mechanism.
My focus with the sleeve was to make it (potentially) easy to swap different tools in and out. For which I don’t think the bearings would make much of a difference, probably a bit worse if anything
