Vertex's magical chain guide

Thats fancy shit!

i hope they have left and right models hehe

you don’t need to change the pivot point to experiment with different sprocket
sizes, Sprocket size, and the effects of the chain angle to the sprocket are
already accounted for in the current math (or if Bar hasn’t merged it yet, it
soon will be)

With the math already accounting for the effect, adding a different effect will
just complicate the math, not simplify it.

If the sprocket size is a variable we can configure in the settings then it does not matter, right?

then we just can use the idler / bobbin size and all is good.

Food for thought -

what’s the chain type used on the maslow?

looks like i need to save a few bikes from the gutter…

#25 roller chain. What size do bikes use?

If the sprocket size is a variable we can configure in the settings then it does not matter, right?

It’s a variable that is used for two things.

  1. how much chain is let out for a given amount of rotation

  2. allowing for the amount of chain between the top of the sprocket and where it
    goes off on a tangent

then we just can use the idler / bobbin size and all is good.

no, the amount of chain you let out per rotation would be wildly off, and the
location of the pivot would change (both from the stock math, and also from mm
to mm as the chain goes over the small diameter pivot and you go from the wide
point of the chain in contact with the bobbin to having the narrow part of
thechain in contact with the bobbin)

bikes use a slight variation on #40 roller chain (different widths are available, but the link length matches #40)

it’s a shame i don’t have a machine yet, these details are hard to figure out from a distance
thanks for the explanation @dlang!

there are many types of chains on bikes

thats why i asked, to figure out if there is a match, i’ll have a look what’s available that matches near #25 maybe in the motor bike section?

You can use other sizes of chain, just need to get sprockets to match and change the settings for the new sizes

it’s just that you need to know what type you are dealing with before ordering additional parts…
i’m looking what’s available near me.
