4.1 Upgrade Troubles

I’m finally getting around to installing my 4.1 upgrade.

2024 was a rough year so I didn’t do much with the Maslow, but at some point I did apply hot glue to the cable connections, and then never did anything with it until now when I’m trying to upgrade.

So it’s been a significant pain getting the hot glue removed as I started taking it apart, but I eventually removed the control board.

Then I saw Bar’s instructions to spin up the stepper motor shafts to separate the sled. However z height was all the way down before I started and I don’t have any exposed shaft.

I attempted to reattach the control board so I could raise the z height but one of my motors cables does not connect and the controller goes into error mode.

I will continue to work on it, maybe get a different cable to try, but I’m looking for other creative solutions to spin the steppers for sled separation.

Hopefully that’s clear, I don’t have the proper names of things in my head.

There are two options.

You could plug the 4.1 control board into the 4.1 encoder boards (they don’t have to be on the arms) and then plug the stepper motors in there and raise it that way.

Another option is to unscrew the stepper motors from the bottom of the sled. That’s a bit more work, but it doesn’t rely on software

Thank you, I will give one of those a shot. Actually I already hooked up the controller board, I just have to go remind myself of first steps with a new board.

Success!
