Hi !
Do you know of any CAM programs that integrate the “Dog Bone” functionality for cutting? I’ve seen that extensions exist for Autodesk Fusion, but since I’m using the free version I can’t install any addons… And I don’t use it enough (personally) to pay the 700 euro annual fee…
Thanks
Nico
You can manually add in dog bone corners to your design in fusion. A few more steps in design but might be easier than leaving new software.

Krabzcam has dogbones, it’s free and very easy to use.
onshape free accounts can add featurescripts, and that includes some dogbone
options.

Yes, but it’s still rather cumbersome to implement, especially if I want optimized dog bones. Ideally, I’d even like to automate the drawing of the plate assemblies (typically: on a trailing edge), but as far as I know, there’s no software that offers this, you have to draw everything…
Thanks a lot ! I’ll try
Thank you too! I’m going to give it a try, especially as I’ve already practised Onshape, the reflexes will come back!
in onshape add the “Dogbone and Corner Overcut Features” featurescript Onshape
t not only does traditional dogbones where you take the bit 1/2 bit diameter past the line, it also does corner overcuts where it goes diagonally into the corner just enough to give you the needed clearance
note that if the angle is < 90 it puts a circle there that you have to plunge to make, not just shift out slightly
Definitely try Krabzcam, a bunch of us are using that to generate our gcode and it really does quite well and having it do dog bones is dirt easy.
Yes, I was just trying it!
It’s a very quickly accessible and simple interface, but maybe too simple for complex cuts? For example, I’m trying to cut a file with a honeycomb pattern, some of whose hexagons are incomplete. I expect the software to ignore these partial hexagons which cannot be made (smaller than the diameter of my cutter, i.e. 8mm, as my complete hexagons are 20mm in diameter). But in return, the software gives me… no feedback: no plot generation or error message.
I’m continuing my tests…
And I realize that the “standard” cutting path generation works perfectly, but when I add the dogbones option it doesn’t work!
Even limiting the angles to 85-95° doesn’t work on my right angle
It only works if I reduce the diameter of my cutter (8mm → 1.5mm)
So large cutter diameters and dogbones seem incompatible…
Thanks for reporting. I think the dogbone issue should be fixed now.
Please reload app and try again.

remember that your cutter needs to be smaller than the dogbone size, and some
CAM software adds a margin to that (especially for the first pass)

Estlcam can do it as well with just a few clicks.
