Can find anchors find the Z offsets? data request for people with good calibration

In theory, we should be able to figure out the anchor Z positions during find anchors, not just the X,Y positions. The fact that if the Z offsets are badly wrong, find anchors fails badly is an indication that this should work.

“In theory, theory and practice are the same, in practice they are different”

So, to test this, I would need to get data from many different setups, try calculating the anchor locations and see how they compare to what is actually working for people. I plan to do this using the new post v1.21 algorithm, so this will also serve as a way to do sanity checking that it isn’t producing bad results.

To do this with no danger to your existing config:

  • go to the fluidnc tab download the maslow.yaml file and upload it again as test.yaml

  • go to preferences and select this file

This ensures that your original yaml file is not touched (and you have a copy of it, always a good idea)

  • it would be good to set the grid width and height to 0 to use the newer automatic grid (unless you had a need to not do so, such as an unusually large frame where this would put the sled off the frame)

  • run find anchors

  • find the last CLBM line in the logs, and the final results (see examples below)

  • go to the maslow.yaml settings and change the spoilboardthickness +65mm

you need to save both on this line and up at the top (do not worry that it says 'save to maslow.yaml, it will actually save to the test.yaml set in the preferences, I just files issue #970 to fix this)

  • raise the router 65mm and run find anchors again, once again gathering the CLBM data and the calculated results (the results should be very close to identical)

  • go back to preferences and change to maslow.yaml to get you back to your original settings (you can delete the test.yaml file or leave it as a backup)

  • finally post the two sets of CLBM/results data and if your spoilboard thickness or Y offsets are not the default, I need those as well (posting the maslow.yaml will give me those, but I don’t need the whole thing

Example of data (from a bad config, but the lines will be similar
