That 8 belt approach is really interesting. I wonder what the advantages of it are?

Overall super cool that Cubio is innovating. Hopefully it is just the beginning of a whole family of new types of CNC tools!

Ooo, nice to see another Maslow-style project!

This is the specs on the KS:

It looks like a mini-Maslow trying to round off some of the sharp edges, but sacrificing some raw power / cutting area / speed as a tradeoff (and not an unreasonable one).

I question the max 2000mm/min speed as it’s definitely not cutting that fast in the video - my guess is that’s max travel speed.

Looking at the video - each corner the pair of belts goes off at 180 to give a diamond (have a look, that’s badly described by me) - my take is smaller motors in parallel and avoiding sled pivot.

Yeah I agree that it’s probably to prevent sled rotation since they don’t have the router bit as the center of rotation

I would agree with the previous about sled yaw and smaller motors. Opposing tension would also lend itself to greater accuracy. The fact the control is sled mounted is interesting, I have been considering a laser mounted in my Maslow but having to disconnect the board for tool change makes it cumbersome.

Cubio X1 had a retail of $1700, only 4 motors and a max work space 60cm x 60cm. Cant imagine this will be less than $2500 or more to get your hands on one.

Good guesstimate! Looks like 2-3k depending on options.

The built in controller looks to be a ESP32 with a round screen. I have run into them on AliExpress, fairly inexpensive. Would be interesting to look into programming one for use on the Maslow.

There is a serial port available on the control board to make it easy to do exactly that. I haven’t tried it tho.

very interesting, I probably like the fact that it behaves like plug and play, and also the easy replacement of the router.

What annoys me the most about the maslow is changing the cutting bit. I have a version with a European makita (or rather an extol router) in a 3D printed case as an insert where there is worse access to the spindle lock for changing the bit. And for me that means pulling the belts, throwing the maslow on its side, looking from below where I hit with the locking “key”, then it’s hard to loosen… but it would probably be better if I could pull the router out of the machine like this. Because I would sometimes like to use it for other jobs rather than buying a second one. Anyway, it gave me the idea of ​​making the insert body, for example, with stainless steel, and some kind of tight connection, or a form-fitting lock against rotation during work. Then I could easily pull out the milling machine or insert another tool, like a laser or a drawing knife.

this easier exchange would also lead me to using multiple operations per clamping, without retracting the belts. and thus losing any accuracy. the edges of the parts could be immediately milled with a radius, or even engraved with a different bit.

it would also mean moving the control board to the side. which can probably be solved.

Has anyone else come up with something similar? have I seen something from Dave? but that’s probably too complicated for me :smiley:

The Turtle Clamps also let you lift out the router. You would need to relocate the control board, slightly longer leads. Loosen 4 screws on each clamp and the router comes out the top.
