I bought a JST-XH controller and encoders as soon as they were offered. I later purchased a spare controller.
Comparing the two, the first board is v1.09 and the second is v1.10b. The v1.09 board does not have C16 installed—the pads are exposed—while the v1.10b board has C16 installed.
In planning on switching to the latter board and keeping the v1.09 as a backup, but…
I haven’t looked at the schematics, so I unsure if the missing C16 is problematic.
Hmm that sounds like it was likely damaged in shipping. I will send you a code for a replacement as soon as I get to the office tomorrow.
You can absolutely use the board without that capacitor there. It is part of the bulk capacitance system that helps provide extra power when the motors need a sudden spike of current. There are other capacitors doing the same thing, so losing one shouldn’t prevent the board from working normally, but we’ll still get you a replacement in the mail ASAP.
