Large scale DNA wall sculpture

Literally the project I initially got the Maslow for, this 10’ x 40’ installation took several months from concept to model to production. With so many pieces and a looming deadline, I had to limit the number of passes with the router and hand cut the rest with a jigsaw, but the Maslow was certainly key in laying out the exact lengths and angles required from the sliced 3D model files I created. I used 3/4" Ultralite MDF to minimize the weight while retaining strength and rigidity. Hopefully not my last parametric project with Maslow…

Damnnnn this is AMAZING!

We were just talking about how this week was light on projects so pretty much anything could win project of the week, but I think you would have been a slam dunk winner in pretty much any week.

WOAH! What is this project for? Is it a permanent installation?

That’s awesome! I definitely get the DNA and molecular feel from it.

I actually have plans to eventually build a dining table with a double helix inlay down the middle. The table is a big reason I got my M4. Without it, I would be hard-pressed to manage the inlay. (Rough example pictured below.)

It is intended to be permanent and on display in a BioMed building in La Jolla

@Aaron_Cover, how did you do the joints connecting the flush wall piece with the protruding base pairs? From the photo in the kitchen, it looks like the base pairs mostly have tabs. Do those tabs go all the way through the flush wall piece?

This is great. As a mechanical engineer I could never design this art but looks great. Way to go
