Lost a magnet (and roller) . Any possibility of local or fast replacement?

Hello.

I have my 4.0 scattered all over the table in the laundry room, and somewhere in the tear down I have lost a roller. Yes, I have already have on hand a bag of replacement rollers. BUT, yes, the one with the magnet is the one gone away. Looked everywhere I can think, and my wife joined me. No joy. I have ordered replacement magnets but they are shipping from China, don’t know when the will arrive.

My patient wife would like her laundry room back in the foreseeable future.

So, how are the magnets described, so I can look for a local replacement? Is there any provision for a quick order for such a thing? Or do I just be patient and wait for the China order?

Thanks for any help (HELP!).

P.S. I already figure I will find it hanging off a zipper or on the bottom of the washing machine right after I jump thru hoops and don’t need it any more. “C’est la vie”?

you are looking for an radial polorized magnet, I think 3mm diameter, but am not
sure

‘standard’ magnets have the poles on the flat sides (top and bottom), these
magnets have the poles across, so N and S poles are on the curved edge

Yikes. Anything my local hardware stores might carry?

A quick Google search would indicate not. DIGIKEY lists them, would have to get the exact measurements. Any ideas where to look in the Open Source documentation for that? Rapidly deciding best course is patience.

I ordered magnets thru Maslow, order indicated from China but I can not find the tracking number for that part of my order (have the update to 4.1 order info, but not the other extra parts I ordered at same time, all to ship from China).

Digikey not a viable source - 10 week lead time! So, unless Bar can pull something out of his sleeve, I’m waiting for that boat from China to get things back in shape….

Unfortunately they are pretty custom made. AMS (the manufacturer of the encoder chip) used to have a really generous program where they would send out free samples, but their website has changed a lot.

I checked on your order and it looks like they shipped out four days ago, but I know that shipping from China can be slow

what size are they?

There are several online supplier that carry these, some call them Diametric
Magnets some radial magnets

a quick google search finds these pages to get you started (but we need to find
the size, if you can measure the hole, buy something to fit it)

They are 6mm

I find lots of 1/4" (6.35mm) ones, but no 6mm ones from us suppliers

Sounds like my ‘Be Patient’ option is the one I’ll need to go with.

Since (at least to me) the significance of the type of magnet was not known, I wonder if anyone has created their own problem by subbing a plain magnet? I can visualize how the rotating poles would be needed for a proper measurement of rotation, a regular magnet would not do anything for the sensor. I hope no one battled that!

Thank you for the quick response.

I’m curious if the roller is magnetized to the side or underside of your washer/dryer since most of the parts are metallic. Just a thought to check in unexpecting location in the laundry room.

Thank you for the follow-up on this, Bar. I’ll just be patient.
