Now that my M4 is running, I thought I would share a few of my mods/tweaks.
Shown in this photo are wire clips for the z stepper motors. They are designed to pop off if wire gets caught, but also keeps them out of the way of the other bits. They can be found at:
Also shown is a spiral cable keeper for the router and electronics cords… It helps keep the M4 from running over the cords, and from unplugging itself (had this happen).
Lastly are color co-ordinated 12" RJ45 cables. One of my original cables caused disconnects so I replaced them all. These are easier to connect and release as well.
In the works are using the cooling fan cover screw holes to mount a state/country/sports team flag and a skid sheet for the base to keep it from getting torn up. I was out of Googly eyes, so unfortunately the M4 is still unable to look out for itself.
I was thinking something similar but then attached to the bottom of the Maslow somehow.
Doesn’t doing it this way conflict with the arms when cutting close to the corners of the workable field? Or is there enough space for them?
Love the googly eyes idea for it to be able to keep an eye on itself Gives you some peace of mind if you do happen to need to go to the bathroom while the machine is cutting
Thank you for the picture. Looks like the arms just go over and under it without bothering it, right?
I might try them out. It could still be combined with a part that maybe hooks into the hexagons in the bottom, and has a small upright to it to clip the lower end of the motor cable to. To reduce the movement of the cable where it enters the motor, so it wears less and cannot unplug itself as easily. In your picture that would be the two half hexagons and the next whole one just below the circle around the motor. something with a press fit maybe. The inside of the circle around the motor (minus the shape of the motor) could also be used… too many plans/ideas. If I ever design/make one (and by one I mean two) I will post it.
Yes just fits between the steppers. Interesting thoughts. This was a quick first pass. If I were to do it again I’d make them just a bit more thin and a bit more tall. A gooseneck mounted to the stepper bolts just came to mind as another possible wire holder outer.
