How did you take these curved parts and get the flat equivalent? That’s something that I’ve been wanting to do and I haven’t found a good way yet
onshape has a flatten feature they just added, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e9inPNNZoI&pp=ygUPb25zaGFwZSBmbGF0dGVu
I designed the hull shape using my employer’s CAD program called NX (siemens). It is very powerful and can also flatten surfaces.
I imported the hull in Onshape (first step in the feature tree) and carried on from there.
Since my retirement I’ve been looking for a flattening tool without breaking the bank.
I always assumed Oneshape couldn’t do it. Now with the top tip from dlang it is possible! And how simple. I tried it immediately and compared the flattened surface with my NX generated flat surface. It is very slightly different, about 1mm on the sheer curve. That’s good enough for me, the inaccuracy of my Maslow is much more of a challenge.
Thanks dlang!
This is AMAZING. What a cool tool!
thanks for pointing to it, I have een wanting to use such a tool for years now!
