One Z stepper intermittently not moving

Machine oil on the screws and bike grease on the gears/spooks.

Just yesterday I managed to calibrate with my new upgrade kit to 4.1 and with firmware .88. I ended the day excited to go to cut today because on a 9x9 grid it gave me a fitness of 0.99 (the best on my maslow).
Today one of the stepper motors on the Z axis (the one below) didnā€™t want to work, I swapped the connectors and it worked, so it must be the output. Right now it started working and I hope it doesnā€™t fail in the middle of the cut. :crossed_fingers:

First edition of text: The stepper motor has stopped working again :slightly_frowning_face:

second edition: itā€™s working again, i think iā€™m having problems

Is this with the board included in the 4.1 upgrade kit?

Yes, this is happening to me so far with the new update board

Darn, well that is good feedback. I was hoping that the new supplier had fully fixed that issue. Iā€™ll keep tracking it. Iā€™m going to DM you a code for a replacement

How do you know when oil is needed vs a new board?

The easiest way to check is to swap which motor is plugged into which port. If the problem stays with the port then itā€™s a board thing.

So a board issue is 100% non functioning at that port. IE the motor never turns on one port vs stopping intermittently.

Unfortunately not

A bad board can (and often does) work intermittently. I wish that they were 100% bad because then we could catch them more easily in QC testing.

Weā€™re working with the factory that makes the PCBs to move the QC process there so hopefully they can get quicker feedback about when issues are happening and fix them right away.

I just built mine (full kit). Looks like I have the same issue. Only one of the ports work. I might be able to solder it if thereā€™s a guide.

One more here which has the same problem with the full kit 4.1!
