Teeth skipping on a motor

teeth skipping on only one arm between plastic belt gear and the middle metal gear. has anyone run into this? any solutions other than a new part?

I have not seen that before, but there must be something visibly damaged inside for that to happen.

Can you see the damage? Are the teeth broken?

I’ve taken it apart a few times to inspect it. the teeth mesh well when dissassembled and no viaible wear. it happens when then the arm is under load.

Looks like the belt guard is making the popping noise. It’s is loose? Or contacting the spool?

I think that @Bryan1 has it pegged, the belt guard is rubbing on the gear teeth.

Without needing to take anything apart you should be able to slightly loosen the three bolts that hold the belt guard in place and shift it so that it doesn’t touch the gear teeth

This guard was unusually twisted and rubbing against teeth even with adjustment. so I ended up cutting of the finned part ( as per video) of the guard that could possibly rub. so it’s not the guard rubbing for sure.

I know you probably don’t want to hear this but you may need to take it apart. per the video something is hitting the guard. You can see it popping back and forth. Not sure what’s hitting it but you might want to disassemble that arm and go through that arms setup really well looking at gear clearance to idler and to the plastic arm half and the belt guard itself. If the guard was twisted (not sure how that happens) you might need to check how the belt is routed through it. I would think if it were a motor issue (inside gears) you would hear the popping but not see anything move since it’s all internal. take it apart especially that arm. You could also swap belt guards with another arm and see if the popping moves with the switch. Other things to check are the belts especially that one super tight? Does it make the noise in any direction it moves? Say if feeding out does it still make the sound? Some pictures of the arm halves, belt guard, gears etc.
