UPDATE: After I disassembled and put it all back together again, I did the firmware update and tried again. It did make it through calibration this time, but the belt still slipped off the spool. It was only a little this time and didn’t get pulled between the spools. Is this a common issue? I wonder if it is because I am using a smaller work surface only 4’x6’. Do I need to trim some off of the belts or something?
This is happening during calibration. After I have stepped through, retract all, then extend all attached the cables to the corners of my table and press calibrate. I press calibrate and it takes tension on all 4 belts then starts unspooling the belts but not taking any tension on the opposing belts. Then there is this pile of loose belt around the spool and it tries to take tension again. Everything gets tangled and the belts get pulled between the belt arms. This is the second time this has happened. I have to completely disassemble to get the belts out from between the spool arms. Can you help me figure out what I am doing wrong. This is a new build I just received yesterday.
Firstly, you have a fairly old version of the software running, I suggest you upgrade to the latest. If you need help with that, let me know.
Secondly, from the photo, that looks like a very small frame, the later versions are better for allowing for that.
How far apart are your anchors?
The first 6 steps it takes it has no idea of the size of the frame, so it releases more belt than it will in subsequent steps you can pull on the belts as they release to prevent them tangling. Is it possible to extend your anchor points out diagonally to allow greater movement of the Maslow?
If you have upgraded to the latest version, I suggest you go into FluidNC, Config Items go down to /Maslow_Work_Area_X & Y and reduce these to more reflect you available work area.
Also with a small frame size, you will need to raise the Anchor Points so belts are as parallel as possible and adjust the Z values for each in the Config file
Thanks for the response and help. I really wanted to keep it on my existing 4x6 work bench. But, I agree I am going to need to build a larger frame to move the anchors further apart. I might try to build some arms that I can attach just to move the anchors out from the bench. I guess it’s time for a trip to Lowes or Home Depot..

there are a number of frame designs that people have built, and you can also
anchor to the walls (with rigid belt extensions if needed)
