I must start with that I believe I have numerous issues.
The z axis fault is intermittent, Ive tried both steppers and they do both work when the other is unplugged. I have had a second board that did fix the issue but it’s back now.
When I send the maslow all the way to the right (or left) and try to send it back, the spool starts to unravel. Ill attach a video. Ive increased the tension and the size of the calibration to 900 x 1100 and the tension is up to 1300. Ive also noticed when I nurse it back to home all the cables get really tight.
Not sure what to try next, ive not managed to cut anything yet
What is your z axis doing. I recently had an issue where moving the z axis up and down one motor would sometimes move or stop prematurely. I tried to rotate the shafts by hand (with z frame installed) one was extremely tight. When I raised it all the way off the screws, they both rotated easily by hand. So I loosened the delrin z axis screw nut on the bad motor side and the z axis moves smoothly and equally now.

the motors can also be shifted slightly in the sled and cause misalignment that
can cause one to bind, loosen the screws, lower the sled all the way down, and
then tightedn them is the normal fix.
If you tug on the belt that is unspooling (so it has a little tension on it) does that fix the issue?
This seems to me like the machine doesn’t have an accurate fix on where the anchor points are. The next thing I would try is to try running the anchor point locating process again with a wider grid (like maybe 900mm wide). That should help the machine get a better fix on where they are.
You legend! It took some time but I when I loosened some of the screws lots of little movements happened all at once and then the Z-Axis started to work. I genuinely thought I had another ‘bad’ board. I’ll see how we get on but it looks promising
I’m in the middle of recalibrating with the sizes stated so ill see how it goes!
spoke too soon haha it doesnt like going vertically. after some fiddling i can get it to work on the bench but as soon as its vertical it gives up for some reason.
So i completely rebuilt the unit. I found a crack on the router clamp (hair line but it did open up) thats been replaced now and a larger calibration completed. the unravelling seems to have been sorted.
@bar the ‘bottom’ (power cable side) stepper wouldnt turn at all. ive swapped the leads and the problem goes to the ‘upper’ stepper. I’ve tried all the steps mentioned above (@tims)with loosing off the delrin screw nut and that didnt work.
Ive replaced the main board and thats not worked.
This feels like this is a stepper motor problem now?
I’ve bit the bullet and ordered a board and stepper motor (in for a penny in for a pound). After that I’m completely out of ideas. I’ll post the results when I get my package fingers crossed it lands soon!
