Using Maslow first pass as a router template

I am trying to see if there someone has tried to use the first pass of the Maslow to do a router template cut and finish the rest of the cuts using a template and a smaller sized bit?

As an example, i have 1/4" & 5/16" upcut bits. I could potentially use the 5/16" bit to do a first pass cut over the material and then switch to manual mode and free hand cut using a router template (5/16" OD & 17/64" ID), a plunge base & a 1/4" upcut bit?

That way my cut jobs do not have to be 12+ hours long. Anybody tried this so far? I am curious about the practical realities of doing this
