Z motor issue - intermittent

Trying to get the M4 going in our woodshop.

I connected to the maslow wifi. It works but there is no blinking blue light on the board. Board v1.10b, firmware 1.12. The belts retract and extend great. One z-axis motor works intermittently when lowering and raising, it stops prematurely. I swapped connections on the board and the same z-axis motor was still doing the same thing. I loosened both z motor attach screws thinking it may not be aligned properly, but it still happens. I can rotate both motors by hand, but the bad motor is quite a bit more difficult. Do we have a bad motor?

I did a little bit more troubleshooting today. I loosened the screws that held in the brass nut for the bad motor. Loosening it up seemed to help. The motors now run at the same speed and equally move the spindle up and down. Has anyone else had this issue?

Where did you get a brass nut? I did some testing with those and found them to bind up a lot so we only ever shipped the plastic ones

I think it shipped from China like that.

We’re talking about these, but brass, right?

I stand corrected. They are the black ones. No idea why I was thinking brass, maybe from the assembly video.

For me, there is an issue that one of the z-axis stepper motors is hard to turn. Here is what was suggested:

I will check tomorrow probably.
