Interesting. DC motors with quadrature encoders run by I2C. Each motor is on the I2C bus. Each motor has its own board. This could have made the maslow classic run off a main control board with I2C, so it could be a due or a mega or a esp32 as shown in the entry and each motor have its own controller board. Would have had more power wires, but it makes the controller modular and if one chip goes out, you swap the board. rather than replace the whole shield…

That is a cool idea!

I played around a bit with the idea of putting the motor drivers on the same board as the encoders, the big drawback that I saw was with cooling. If we want to have a fan for cooling it’s hard to do that with the motor drivers spread out
