Belt jam fix ideas?

New user trying to get going…

Went to calibrate and the belt on one of the axis did this. Looks like there was slack that it ate and now it’s completely jammed. Really hoping I don’t have to completely disassemble the thing to get in there.

I’ve tried to remove the motor, but removing the screws on the underside didn’t help.

Wow. Gotta admit, pretty pissedapointed. Spent MANY many hours putting it together. Hours and bucks building a frame. Another countless batch of hours trying to figure why its firmware won’t take - still trying to find out where the machine measurements go! Only to have it eat its own belt and destroy itself while doing its first ever calibration.

Taking it apart to solve such an issue is an absolute nightmare, and once I got in there you can see where the drive motor just ate the belt…ruining it. So before I could even TRY to get to know it and troubleshoot it, I’m screwed.

Pretty damned discouraged y’all. Been working on this on and off for a year now.

parts are available, with the 4.1 update there is an updated plastic belt guard
to help keep the belt from getting in the gears. if you have a 3d printer you
can print one yourself.

I haven’t had problems like this, but many others have (which is why the belt
guard got an update after the initial shipment)

Yeah, those screws hold on to the belt guard, not the motor.

So unfortunately, you are going to have to pull it apart.

I appreciate this isn’t much comfort, but … we’ve all been there

Thanks David. I have to decide if I want to invest more time in this. Right now I want to haul it to the trash. Hopefully that changes with a little sleep

Thanks md8n. I realized that was the case after a while. Yeeeesh. Horrible process.

If you leave some of the belt loose, about one or two full turns of the spool it usually makes reassembly a lot easier.

You’ll always be doing a retract all to start, so excess belt will always get sorted out.

I have been in this situation and was able to sort without disassembly. Something that looks like a dental tool can help fish the belts out. The main issue is you have various layers of belts overlapping. The key is to figure out which layer you are on and sort from there.

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I must admit, I put the whole thing in a box and am pretty bummed. Hopefully I’ll calm down and come back to it in the spring or summer. Winter is not my season
