Does anyone have recommendations for a glass scoring drag knife that can score glass vs just an engrave. I am looking to a use the CNC and drag knife to score deep enough to shape 1/4” glass. The tabletop requires both convex and concave curved sides.
The other Consideration is to cut templates out of acrylic material and use a hand tool for scoring the glass deep enough. I have read that templates for cutting glass should be made out of acrylic versus wood…
All of my glass cutting by hand has been very frustrating. I have no wisdom on this but it is an interesting question. I would look at how stained glass makers cut large complicated shapes?
Glass tabletops are often tempered and that can’t be cut with standard tools?
You could use a sharpie in the cnc machine to plan your cut.
You could use a projector to project your design on the glass and then use a sharpie to trace it.
I guess I would plan my cut as several cuts that can go all the way across.
I am very interested to see how this turns out.
I have seen people having good luck cutting complicated glass underwater?
I reached out to IDC. They replied back that this drag knife does not score deep enough for 1/4” glass. I will test some curved shapes with a hand glass cutter. If successful I will use the CNC to cut a template.
I would check this site for recommwndations on tools. Ive also seen their videos with tips and tricks.
For 6-15mm, they recommend a 155 deg cutting angle.
I plan to make a holder like a pen/marker holder with a similar cutting tool to the Bohle, but I’m many months from that plan so I’m interested to see how you make out.
