@arjenschoneveld in this thread and beyond, your Not a Gantry video is total Maslow cult classic. That is a beast solution!
Did a few tests of this process a couple months ago when I had room to get in my garage and access the Maslow. Worked well, but I was in a pretty big hurry, so I don’t have any images.
Have been sitting on my 4.1 upgrade kit for a bit, waiting till I could get back out into the workshop, and also ended up with 4x 1500mm linear rails and 2x 1200mm linear rails, so I’ll be adding that to the frame and see how well the Maslow handles that both before and after upgrading my now-ancient firmware. Will just use them for other projects if this doesn’t work out.
Currently working out the best way to handle mounting the sled to the short axis in a way that allows me to adjust the z height that the carriage rides at.
I’m going to test it with wood carves, but I’m primarily going to be using this for carving foam or as a pen-plotter when it’s mounted, potentially also as a slab flattener. From what I’ve been exploring, I will only be worried about rigidity on the z axis, because the belts will put the maslow where it needs to be on the XY and the rails are just there to float it.
I’m not suddenly unaware of the issues that could grow out of mixing methods, but having some level of gantry utility with a 4x8 work area for the cost of this assembly so far would be really nice, especially if it’s a Maslow that I can just pop off the frame and use on site when needed
