First time assembly took 14 hours to assemble and does not work

I’ve added a self test function to the latest version which will tell you which thing is not connecting:

Sorry to be late to the party, but because my problem is so similar, I’ll chime in here. My son and I were able to assemble the entire unit without any trouble whatsoever. We followed the beginning of the configuration steps including updated firmware and other files form GitHub (in order to lower the z and retract).

Z control works just as it should, but when we select “retract all,” the fan spools up for about 2 seconds, the motors begin to twitch, and then everything stops.

All four motors have solid green lights.

The retract all command shows in the history with no error, but nothing really happens.

I am getting position error readings on the history as well, but it looks like that is normal based on the video?

Thanks!

I’ve just released the latest firmware version, can you give it a try and see if it either fixes the issue or provides more information?

Don’t forget to update the firmware and the index.html file to get all the benefits

This isn’t a concern. The green light indicates that the encoder has power, while the yellow light shows the position of the encoder. If you push the belt in and out a little bit you should see the yellow light change brightness.

Are you able to freely move the belt in and out all the way to the spool?

no luck here, though I do get more info:

That is super helpful, but is it OK to start a new thread? I think that this issue is different from what @Dave_Hanson was seeing

I recall the assembly instructions saying not to over tighten the top and bottom cases for the arms. I don’t believe we did this, and before we’d gotten this far, there were a couple occasions where the arms tried to extend out, and seemed to have no trouble running in that direction, so I don’t think the gears are bound up.

sure! Can you do that, or would you like me to?

If you want to get it started with a description of what the issue is I’ll see if I can figure it out :grinning:

what do you mean “hard look”. I have examined the PCB - yes.

Yes, I did unplug and plug in again. several times. I will play with it more. perhaps this is something to do with the cold joint I repaired?

no. I cannot budge any of the belts

Firstly - this is awesome, thank you so much for this.
running the test has uncover that the “bottom-right” motor is NOT detected.

so… which arm is “bottom-right”. this is looking like it might be retaied to the cold joint on my PCB

thanks again Bar
cheers

Excellent, I’m glad to hear it helped …you gave great feedback!

Let’s get you a new PCB. It seems like that could be the culprit so having one in the mail would be nice since it will take a couple days to get there.

“Down” is in relation to the power cord so if it were hanging on the wall with the power cord down, bottom right would be the one down and to the right. :man_facepalming:…now I’m just going to be defining it by saying the same words

This one

I think this is a pretty significant concern. The belts should be able to move feely in and out the rollers. If you push the belt in from the end it should come out on the spool side easily.

Like this:

cool - so arm position identification is relative to the power socket (power socket being “bottom”)

thank you

oh. thats what you mean - yes, I can move the belt freely. what I meant was that the spooled belt (belt on the spool) does not budge

So, I would have repaired the “bottom-left” motor plug. referring to my photo above

Yes, that looks like the bottom left one to me. Maybe the bottom right has a cold solder too?

If you swap which arm is plugged in there does the issue stay with the port that it’s plugged into or move with the arm?
