Fitness too low x 7 attempts on latest Firmware

Our frame is one that can be broken down, so it may have some flex. We just screwed the corners to the deck, so there shouldn’t be any possibility of flex any more. Running calibration now, and will keep you posted.

So I think we’ve settled the flexing…we screwed the corners to the floor.

If I have passable numbers on, say, 5x5, do I then rerun calibration with the larger grid?

Yes, but save your Maslow.yaml from successful calibrations before overwriting them with new calibrations.

I seem to be having the same problem has there been a solution to fix the WARNING FITNESS TOO LOW. DO NOT USE THESE CALIBRATION VALUES! I have been working on calibration after calibration trying vertical and horizontal orientation, adjust the angle when vertical. updating files and firmware trying different versions of the software even fully resetting it was able to cut and use last weekend but been working on it for 12 hours not stopping probably ran calibration about 20 plus times

We need to figure out why you are not getting good fits.

  1. you say you’ve tried both horizontal and vertical, is your machine on the
    ground (horizontal) or leaning against something (vertical)

  2. are the belts retracting fully and tight as it’s going through calibration

  3. are you lowering the Z all the way down before you start calibration?

I had it both on the ground (horizontal) and leaning at exactly 15 degrees (vertical) all belts are tight with no slack what so ever and Z axis is all the way down 13 hours of messing with different configuration reading threw the forums getting no where was able to use it just fine last weekend and it wasn’t moving right so decided to calibrate to make it work better and messed the whole unit up.

@Michael_Tetrault In the FluidNC tab, go the the setting tab, flash settings (I think, I’m not in my shop right now), and change the Fitness Threshold to 0.350 (to allow your 0.37+ fitness to pass) This will at least let you get some use out of it while you refine your mounting.

The only settings it shows on the FluidNC tab for threshold is
/maslow_retract_current_threshold - 1300
/maslow_calibration_current_threshold - 1500
/maslow_acceptable_calibration_threshold - 0.500

note that it’s less ‘succeed’ and more ‘not complain’

a fitness score of 0.35 means that as it’s calculating all the points and
mapping out the belt lengths and anchor points, there is an average error of
~3mm (vs ~2mm for the standard 0.5 limit) from what it’s measuring and what
should be.

so lowering the limit will let you move on to cutting things, but the accuracy
may not be good enough for your project (but that’s going to depend on your
project)

I plugged in your final CLBM to our calibration simulator and I notice that the rightmost points (the last 8 or 9) seem to be maybe not as accurate as the others. When I exclude them from the calculation I get ~.50 fitness.

You can try to decrease the width of the calibration grid width and see if this helps (e.g. go from 2000 to 1500 or so).

Updated to the new files of 0.77 still getting nowhere adjusted the calibration grid to 1500, in fact I’m falling further into a hole and not even getting through the first 5 waypoints at this point there is no fixing this issue I’m close to giving up bought an expensive paper weight.

After calibration does not work, what do you see if you press “Retract All” to pull the belts back in? It should print out some numbers.

that indicates that the belts had not been retracted since power on.

After you go through calibration and it reports a problem, if you immediately
retract the belts, those numbers should all be near zero.

you can also extend/retract the belts to see this happen, but that is a best
case situation, if after all the work for calibration the numbers are
significantly worse, that indicates that the magnets are slipping or some other
problem with the encoders.
