Fun Halloween Decor

Hi All,

Just wanted to show my cut out of the Hitchhiking Ghosts from The Haunted Mansion from Disneyworld. Came out looking great and I’m excited to paint them. I’m going to paint them with glow in the dark paint and use a blacklight to light them up in my front yard as decor.

These look awesome! This is inspiring me to want to do some haloween cut outs!

Looks great! How are you mounting them to stand up?

Probably painting a couple sticks of 1x4 black. Screwing them to the stick then attaching wooden stakes to that 1x4 to hit into the ground.

Nice! I wonder how well it would work to add ground stakes into the design itself then they could be pushed straight into the ground without any further additions.

I did the same thing with the M2 and some Grinch characters for my wife for XMAS. I have found in the past that 1x4’s and screws are the weak point (for hard ground at least) and went with some eyelets in the back of the standees. The then pound some rebar into the ground and slide them over. Works like a charm and will last forever.

Do you mind sharing your files at all? I might knock out some of those myself. Always loved Haunted Mansion.

“Down And Out In the Magic Kingdom” by Cory Doctorow ignited my love of Haunted Mansion, recommended for anyone who enjoys near future science fiction.

I’m also interested!

Hi, sorry been busy and haven’t checked the forum in a bit, I can share my files, they are dxf. I will do it when I get to my shop.

I was inspired by this and did my own! I’m going to put stakes and/or a stand on them so I can put them out on the road for the season.

Attaching a copy of my DXF in case anyone else wants to do something along these lines. Started with an SVG then played around until I could get the biggest version that’d fit on a 4x8. It’s hand-arranged, Deepnest struggled with this one so there might be ways to make them even bigger and squeeze them together.

I painted both sides with white housepaint then dusted them with a ghostly blue-green before coming in with a small spongebrush and acrylic paints to color Gus’s ball & chain, Plump’s hat & bag & shoes, and of course Beanne’s jaunty bow tie.

For the cut, I did a 2mm engrave of the art and then cut them out with the existing outer border. KrabzCAM was very helpful with this and helped me find some wonky artifacts that would have wreaked havoc. M4 with 1/8" bit at 1800mm/m in 1/2" ply.
