I saw in the weekly email yesterday that the parts are “back in stock”. I know you started with a small test batch. Is the batch that is in stock now a full order of the parts or another small batch? I haven’t really been having encoder issues (or at least I don’t think I have), so I don’t mind waiting a bit before making the upgrade. If it’s another small batch, I’d rather ensure everyone who is having issues have the parts available so they can get back up and runny smoothly.
This batch is a bit bigger (50 vs 10 in the first batch) but it’s still a reasonably small batch. Our plan is to try to keep them in stock forever from now on so I wouldn’t feel pressured to buy them now, because they will be available later too, but I also wouldn’t stay that you need to hold back and save them for folks having issues.
Sounds good. I had a belt recently get really stuck and chewed up in the gears and I’ve also noticed some some damage on some other belts as well, so I will likely replace those belts soon and at the same time make the switch over to the new encoders.
I have been out of the maslow world for a few months, but might have some more time to dip back in soon (at least I hope so!).
I see the new boards are out of stock (October 27, 2024). any thoughts on when the next batch might be available? Also, have these shown to be better behaved?

they are much better than just pluggin in the ethernet cables.
they are a little better than the ethernet cables secured with hot glue
there is very little difference between soldered in ethernet cables.

Welcome back! We missed you!
Hopefully they will be back in stock later this week. For us they’ve made a HUGE difference, we haven’t seen a single crash since making the switch.
We haven’t heard a lot of feedback from folks who have installed them, but that is probably a good thing? At the very least I haven’t heard any reports of someone making the switch and then having connection issues afterwards. We have had a couple of folks run into calibration issues, but I’m 90% sure those are unrelated
I have had zero issues relating to the encoders. I have had issues with one of my z-axis connectors (I probably did something to make that happen), but despite not having a fine enough soldering tip or a magnifier, I finally managed yesterday to get that sorted. (Tips and a magnifier are on the way.)
Again, Mahalo for all you do!
I installed the JST-XH Encoder Board over the weekend and snuck in a 2h cut this afternoon. No errors for the first time in some months. The web interface disconnected as I moved my laptop a little too far from the Maslow (I connect directly the Maslow vs. over my local network) and the cut completed successfully,
Previously I was getting mainly the 15mm error even with the hot glue workaround. I’ve a few more cuts hopefully on Friday - if I can get three successful cuts in a row I’ll be happy with the change to the new board, encoders and cables.
@Beagle How did this turn out? Did you add a connector anywhere?
Dano
Yes I added jst connectors just so I could manage the cabling
I’ve only run a calibration as I’ve not set up my spindle as yet and plus after reading on forums about vertical angles I’m changing from 15 degrees to 22
I will update when I get the time to throw some hours at it.

@bar - I’m in the middle of doing the swap for the JST parts but I am having a very difficult, if not impossible, time getting the motor screws out. I’m probably going to need new plastic spool holder pieces, but just that half where the motor attaches. In the shop, I see that you don’t currently sell just 1/2 of the shell (all I see is both half shells and the belt spool). is it possible to just get that half or should I order 4x of the entire shell?
Thanks!

the two halves of the shell are identical, so ordering 2x entire shell will give
you the 4x half shells that you want.
people have had problems with the heads stripping, some people have cut a slot
in them, others have used superglue to glue the hex key into them (heat will
break superglue after they are out), some people have forced a torx bit into
them.

Oh yeah, that makes total sense - it’s been a long time since I assembled it and forgot that they are the same.
@bar, I’m good to go and will put an order in for 2 kits today.
Finally installed the JST connectors! It took a long time, but was pretty easy. Only note is I think the new boards should come with the heat syncs or at least new adhesive material. Some of them didnt’ want to stick as dust covered the adhesive. Hope they don’t pop off and short something on the board.
Posted in the firmware thread, but calibration went smoothly and with 0.84.2 firmware the belt tightness when jogging is the best I’ve seen so far! Save your maslow.yaml file, made recalibrating a breeze.
All in all, really love the quality and it was a very satisfying upgrade! Thanks team!!!
I’ve found those to be tough to get out too. Something like this makes it a lot easier:
That’s one of the big reasons that we’re going to be switching to the star drive bolts.
Excellent! I am glad to hear it! Thanks for the feedback!
Hi Bar, for those of us who already have the JST-XH Boards and connectors, will the new Kickstarter have an upgrade option that excludes these items? I wouldn’t want to end up paying for two sets;-)
Yes, absolutely
Excellent, thanks!
And will the new Kickstarter go live today, Nov 11?
Any idea when new controller boards are back in stock, I seem to have lost power to one of the stepper motors possibly shorted pins on pcb, definitley board port as i swopped cables round to check if motor was ok which it was.
