Linear rod too long?

The assembly says there will be a small gap, this seems to be a large gap. I made sure the linear rod is pushed all the way into the support base.

What options do I have?

  1. Try to grind off a few mm on the grinding wheel?
  2. Try to Dremel or cut off a few mm with a band saw?
  3. Shim the linear rod support off the sled with a washer or two?

Am I missing anything?

It was too long and not cut well from the factory like this.

I tried to use a band saw but the metal seems very hard.
A bench grinder took a few MM off pretty quick. It still fits tight but no plastic will crack now from tightening it down.

So it’s all together.

Yes I think you did the right thing, I had to do the same, it also distorts the sled when everything is clamped down and it is too long.
I believe this issue was addressed with the Maslow 4.1 and those rods are now CNC lathe cut instead of the old, less accurate, process.
