M4: Calibration fail observations, large portrait vertical

This is our culprit for sure. Did the tension in the belts seem too high?

If it can’t physically move one of the belts to where it needs to be it will stop and throw that error message

Today I realized that I too could have a large portrait vertical frame if I tilted my horizontal frame upright.

I’ve been experimenting with that today. I ended up finding and fixing some unrelated (I’m pretty sure) bugs along the way today, and I’ll keep working with it tomorrow. So far I haven’t found anything that seems to indicate that a portrait frame can’t work for any reason

So cool! I think if you keep it like this the saving of coordinates will start to become more important to you  . That is why i moved my top anchors down to basically a 8 x 8 for now since it is quite the process to take down and hang it.

I didn’t think the belts were particularly tight. I will try again with no bit but same z height tomorrow and see if it has the same issue

It could 100% be a bug. Jumping straight up to 21mm of error does seem suspicious especially if nothing weird was going on with the belts.

I did a calibration with 0.70 today and got great results. did a dry run long enough to know that I have good accuracy. I watched the maslow.nc go through the motions without error where I had them before. I’ll have to cut it again with the bit in and vacuum on, but my dust cover broke during all my up and down off the machine so I need to print another before I cut any more.

I’m going to consider this thread closed now.

Don’t worry, I’ll still be working on making things better with you all, and keeping the visualization tool up to date, but I may actually spend some of my free time cutting this weekend instead of coding / crunching calibration numbers

TLDR:

I’m so glad to hear it :grinning: You’ve pioneered a lot of fixes which generations to come will take for granted. Things that work now wouldn’t be working without your help.
