Short video (stills) using RandomDave’s innovative Turtle Clamps and my alternate 240V control board mount.
Main reason for doing this now:
I kept getting a Position error on Bottom Left axis exceeded 15mm while running. and the BL arm would not retract until I extended, pulled out soon belt then retracted again. Other belts, no problem. On investigation I found a damaged gear on the BL spool, see photo in video. I replaced the spool and have just retested the Maslow, with no problem encountered, where on the same file prior to replacing the spool it was consistently failing near the same place in the cut, with a 4000 mA exceeded message
Awesome, nice to see the idea being used in the wild, and the board re-location works really well!
All feedback is appreciated - what made you trim it down to 10mm - less weight? not wanting to lose a bit of Z travel? something else?
Printed two, one for top as well. Just decided it didn’t need to be that deep for me, also it took 4.5 hrs to print at 20mm. I mirrored you design because it suited my motor layout better, but it actually makes more sense to do it as you provided it, because the Z motor cable is a little in the way on mine. Would recommend another couple of degrees just to get the cord a bit further away from the support.
Thanks for all the thought you put into this. It just works.
One other thing. It is very tight on the router. I did have visions of being able to loosen off the clamps and pulling the router out without having to undo all the nuts etc. Not sure if this will work due to the tightness of the clamp.
Ah, that’s makes sense - I think I’m used to stuff taking that long to print!
Good to know, will try another couple of degrees when I try it.
No worries, glad it helps someone other than me!
Yeah, that’s (sort of) intentional - the clamps are stiffer in their mounting the less you have to extend them, the aim was that it doesn’t have much play.
That said, I find I can pull the router out easier than I can put it in, and once the clamps have bedded in a little generally it’s not too difficult putting it in and out. The tolerances are quite tight though, it is possible that on my printer it’s fine and on yours there’s a few tenths of a millimetre difference and that’s making it too tight.
Let me know what it’s like as you use it a bit more, I could potentially back it off a bit in the future if needed
