On the final pass when I cut all the way through the material the weight of the material causes it to fall hitting the bit and causing damage to my piece.
How can I prevent this?
add tabs during the CAM step.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a tab?
It’s little rectangular pieces that you leave un-cut, keeping your part attached to the stock board. You cut them out with a chisel or an oscillating tool once everything is done.
There should be an option for this in the CAM software you’re using.
