Project of the Week / Community Gardener for October 3, 2018

Nominations are open for this week’s Project of the Week (PotW) and Community Gardener (CG) awards. You can nominate simply by replying to this thread. Self-nominations are allowed.

The selected project will be highlighted in the Maslow newsletter. The user will receive a “Project of the Week” or “Community Gardener” badge on the forums and a picture of the router bits you would have won if you had only won a few weeks earlier.

The approximate weekly schedule is: nominations open right after the previous week’s poll posts, nominations close no earlier than Saturday, voting Sunday through Wednesday, polls close automatically on Wednesday. After nominations from the community have been made, I’ll post a poll for the community to pick a winner. If we don’t get enough nominations, I will randomly select projects from previous weeks’ nominations, the back issues of the Maslow newsletter, Made on Maslow, and of course the Community Garden website to appear in a poll. Projects that don’t win in a poll can be renominated on subsequent weeks. Any project can only win once, but any person can win multiple times.

What makes a PotW? It can be a project (old or new) made on a Maslow CNC that shows off the Maslow’s capabilities, or demonstrates a new way of using the Maslow, or just plain looks cool. There is also a Maslow Community Contributor of the Week for great contributions to the Maslow community, which is run by TheRiflesSpiral; nominations which better fit that award will be forwarded to him.

What makes a Community Gardener? It can be anyone who creates or contributes to a project on the Community Garden website (http://maslowcommunitygarden.org/). By posting to the CG, you make the project available to the community and you create the opportunity for other users to improve on your design. Vote however you like, but I hope to encourage collaborative projects.

Final note: like most things here on the forums, the community is what makes PotW/CG successful. Suggestions for improving the PotW/CG and volunteers to help run the thread are always welcome.

What’s the policy for projects that got nominated in an unfinished form, but which are way cooler in their final version?

On the one hand it seems like we should let them enter again because we judged them when incomplete, on the other hand it seems unfair to let some projects enter twice.

What does everyone think?

This is the project which made me wonder:

I’m honored Bar that you thought my project worthy of that consideration,i didn’t even know it had been nominated before. I haven’t looked it up but i think the pedal trucks were nominated about that time. If that was the case then my project even in finished form wouldn’t have won so putting it up again would be unfair. Maybe inthe future give the creator the option to withdraw their project if it’s unfinished so it van be judged in final form?

Any week we don’t have enough nominations (not often these days), I put a few past projects into the poll, so I have no problem with renominations.

I figure if a project won, even in incomplete form, it has gotten its 15 minutes of fame. Nominating for a second prize is just piling on.

Someday we may face a situation where we have to ask the question, “how different does a project have to be from a previous winner to be eligible for nomination?” Hasn’t been an issue so far, cause the community keeps turning out creative new projects!

Renoms are good with me.

Speaking of renomination…what about remixes?..because we can remix physical objects now

Renoms and remixes are good with me. I would recommend giving recognition to whomever was originally responsible. At least that would be the respectable thing to do. Realistically I would be reluctant to vote for something that was not recognizably different. However, having someone replicate your project is really rewarding in it’s own right.
Sorry, I couldnt resist…
