Question re: Spindle / router height

Hi!

I have a question re: Spindle height - I’ve designed a sleeve for my spindle, but when the Z axis is at its lowest the collet sticks out the bottom of the machine. There seems to be plenty of room to clear the work piece with a router bit installed, so should this be OK considering we need to reset the Z home when routing?

Or is it best practice I re-design my sleeve so that the collet is level with the bottom of the sled when the Z axis is at its lowest?

Thanks

What matters is if the bit can go up far enough to clear the workpiece.

If the collet goes past the bottom, it makes it easier to take the bit out, but
if you can’t get the bit clear of the workpiece, it’s hard to do much of
anything.

Z=0 is with the bit at the surface of the workpiece.

Perfect - thanks David!

This is probably best because during calibration you want to have the router all the way down.
