Random M4 setup questions

Still waiting for a few wet days to finish assembling my M4. Meanwhile, I have a couple of questions:

In a vertical mounting setup, can the long dimension of the plywood sheet be vertical? FWIW, I have a shed with a 10’ tall outside wall.

Has anyone looked into using a Maslow to carve traces in PCBs (printed circuit boards)?

Do we have any idea of the “success rate” of M4 builds?

Yes, but you need to get at the top anchors a LOT right now (patches in the next
release to reduce that, but it will still be far more than you would like

not that I’ve heard of. It may be possible, or there may be enough flex in it to
not be precise enough

no, we don’t know how many people who don’t report here succeeded vs how many
gave up

we do know that the vast majority of the people who show up here are able to get
going with help (although there are some who give up)

I’m imagining a 4’ x 8’ PCB …

I actually have a need to do something like this, probably with several PCBs,
that would end up as a ~1’x3’ area

(a fireworks control panel, lots of 1/2" pads connected to a 50 pin connector)

FWIW, I keep thinking about mounting a small (e.g., 20W) laser on the M4. That should have less problems with Z-axis slop…

Just make sure it’s suitably enclosed. you will be able to run your maslow all
the way down at z-stop all the time to you have no gap to be dangerous.

however, keep in mind that the maslow moves VERY slow compared to a laser.
