The top arm with motor, when mounted on the router seems to have extra play in it

I just finished putting the router and sled together, but I’m concerned about plugging it in because of the slack and play in the top motor arm. I’ve used every part, but this doesn’t seem to match the quality of the product. Could I have made an error somewhere?

There is a designed amount of play in the stack of arms they should not be snugly fit inside the top and bottom plate.

Just to be sure we understand your concern. Are you talking about play in the vertical stacking of the arm assemblies? If so, I agree with @ronlawrence3. Or are you seeing play in the belts or some other part in the system?

No, there seems to be a small gap between the 3rd and 4th arm, allowing it to wobble a bit.

Actually, the gap is between the top arm and the top brace.

yep that is normal. the arms can slide up and down on the router between the top and bottom brace a small amount.

Great, thanks for the help. I’ll continue with my start up.

It seems that if play is necessary to avoid friction, etc, that the amount should be less. Mine has around 1/8” play. Does that not play into cutting imprecision?

Technically yes, but the way the math works out it’s like 0.0001mm or something like that. We have much bigger sources of error elsewhere

No, because you never have the situation where the belts are pulling up on the
arms.
