Unable to move sled to Home

Hi:
I bought my kit from eastbaysource and have hooked up everything per instructions (over various posts). I got the chains moving (before connecting to sled) However, I am

  • Unable to do any form of calibration fo rthe ZAxis
  • Unable to move sled to a new Home position

When I open up ZAxis option in WebControl, and use the Up and down arrows (on the ZAxis control panel) It tries to move the sled instead and throws an error : "Unable to find valid machine position for chain lengths… "

So I disconnect the sled and then recalibrate the chains and reconnect the sled and try the above two steps. (ZAxis calibration/move to home). This throws the same error again.

I have checked for cable connections, they are firmly seated.

This is the final step I am trying to resolve so I can actually start using the Maslow CNC. the links and videos that other forum users and in general “Bosses” have been helpful. But do not talk to how to get the ZAxis stuff sorted out. Also this constant unable to find valid machine position bit.

Thanks very much for the help I am about to receive. It is very much appreciated.

This issue means that the machine isn’t able to compute a valid geometry from the information it has. Usually this means that the settings for either the spacing between the motors or the size of the ring are incorrect. Basically if it thinks the motors are 100 meters apart or something then it won’t be able to figure out how it’s possible for the chains to connect to the sled. I start by checking those settings or by re-setting everything to the defaults.

Any instructions for handling the ZAxis setup ? I left all the default settings in place.

  1. Do I need to have the router powered up and on for any of the movement ?
  2. How do I set the “Zero” for the ZAxis?
  3. Would there be any reason for reversing the ZAxis management ? ( so that up becomes down and the reverse)

thanks again

no

  1. How do I set the “Zero” for the ZAxis?

should not

  1. Would there be any reason for reversing the ZAxis management ? ( so that up becomes down and the reverse)

that would be the Z axis pitch, change it from positive to negatiive to reverse
the direction. Since this is incorrect, also check the value or you may not be
moving the distance you think you are (move it in small amounts until you are
sure of this, otherwise you can damage things.

all of that Helped. Thanks very much. On to the next hurdle to jump.
