I am back after a little while of having to keep my Maslow in storage due to moving into a new home, but I am back to getting this system up and running. My first order of business was to update the firmware to whatever the latest version is, and currently that version is V1.15 according to the GitHub site.
I followed the tutorial provided by @bar on Youtube on how to update Maslow CNC firmware running version before V1.0 to after, and immediately I am hitting an issue not seen on the video. On the video, after Bar performs the “full_install.bat”, he just gets a series of lines in the terminal about V1.2.0 COM3 and then options to do further actions, ultimately ending with him closing down the terminal window and unplugging the machine, plugging it back in, and connecting to the machine via the Maslow WiFi network.
When I perform this process, at the very end of the installation, my terminal comes up with 3 options (COM3/COM4/COM5) and requires me to choose (0,1,2). After making a selection, the system then comes up with the options that Bar was shown, and I finish the process exactly as Bar did.
The second issue (and I think the bigger problem) is that when I try to update the firmware, I go through Maslow.Local, attempt to do the wireless upload of the firmware.bin file, and hit upload and nothing happens. I have attempted this with both V1.15 as well as V1.0 and I get the same issue.
That doesn’t look like the update was successful using the USB port. Try reloading it again with version 1.15. Are you updating with a Windows machine?
UTube instruction video Installing Firmware 1.0
Where it says V1.01, use V1.15
What update are you referring to explicitly that wasn’t successful using USB port?
I have followed the YouTube video per @bar instruction and have documented what I am seeing (see initial post).
Bar’s instructions state that the only time you’d have to perform the instructions shown is the initial update from pre-V1.0 to post-V1.0. Why is there an installer for V1.15? Why, since I have gone through the process shown in the video, would I not be able to use FluidNC wireless update to update the firmware, as I have done on previous firmware updates? How can I even confirm that whatever I did via the instruction video actually did what it was supposed to? What is currently loaded on there now?
There is an installer for every version just in case someone wants it. If you want to fully wipe your machine back to factory settings the installer is the best way. You should never need to use it again though.
It seems like the USB update might not have worked. If you are still on a version before 1.0 then the wireless update won’t work.
Press the Setup → Test button and it will tell you the current version number
@bar@ian_ab Just looked at the Setup→ Test Feature and it’s showing that I am successfully running V1.15. Thanks for all the help! Now it’s time to try and calibrate. Wish me luck!
