What is required?!?

They are processors.
Intel’s current naming schema is i3 for low end, i5 for midrange and i7 for high end.(from 2009-current)
Core, core2, core2 duo and core 2 quad are the previous generation processors (from 2001-2008)

@TheMerryYeoman can you confirm that you were able extract ground control after downloading it without getting the error you described in your second post? Have you been able to see least get it running? What version of Windows do you have?

Help us to help you. The first barrier you need to take is to forget

It is neither rocket science, nor quantum physics.
Once you manage to delete that quote from your history, the path is open.

To walk it with you, you have more then enough Friends here.
The key is, to walk step by step and keep it all together.
Spreading the information over more then one post makes it more difficult for you and for the ones that are with you to help. (At least provide the links to the other posts on top.)

What is the model number of the new graphic card you recently bought?
Please don’t just say “the error message was something with a window”. A screenshot perhaps, or a copy/past will have the information needed.
We work as a Team and your part is to provide the information as detailed as possible showing the way, our part is to take that information to get the coordinates to move on.

Keep your head up.

Kind regards, Gero

True, but a Pi is far slower (although it doesn’t have to fight the windows
overhead)

Ground control needs very little, even the graphics requirements aren’t because
it needs fast graphics, just that it’s setup to require a specific library.

I don’t think you could buy a computer that can run windows 8 or 10 that can’t
run Ground Control in terms of CPU/memory/graphics requirements

now, if you cannot disable the power savings modes, you can have trouble (as we
have seen in this discussion over the last week)

I was able to extract.
Ground Control wouldn’t launch.
Windows 10 32 bit… I hate it.
I’d rather be back to Windows 7.
Edit: I guess 8.1 (windows) is required?.. So I will try to set it up to act like 7

I am thinking it must be about RAM. Does that have to do with GB? I got something with 2 GB when I needed 8. I was “running” windows 10 and couldn’t launch GC.

A Raspberry Pi has 1G or less, GC doesn’t take much memory to run. Any computer
that meets the Microsoft minimum specs for the windows OS will have enough
memory to run GC.

the only real requirement (besides the graphics, which windows 8 and 10 require
anyway) is to be able to disable all the power savings options so that it
doesn’t put anything to sleep while it’s idle for hours while doing a long cut.

It’s when you want to then run your CAD software on the same computer that you
will need more memory.

I shut down all power saving and gc still won’t launch. There may be something else that is blocking it but, I suppose, the point is moot since I do need a computer that can handle CAD & CAM and hopefully anything else needed (or very useful) for Maslow CNC. I have given Scott from JSM Computers what requirements I need.

This is the last email I sent Scott from JSM Computers:
I had a suggestion from someone in the forum…

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J46FQCX/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?&m=A3R2SJ6OXUDNDY

I previously said I wanted Windows 7.

THAT WAS A MISTAKE!

I think that you have even had the opportunity to see that Windows 8.1 is required when Windows is the OS.

Other forum quotes include:

I’d suggest an i5 to i7 for running a cad program, and at the very least an i3 for running maslow.
core 2 / core 2 duo is very old tech, and quite slow

And…

8gb of ram with any AMD or Intel CPU made in the last few years should do the trick. Make sure it can run Windows 10 or MacOS Mojave. That should also be enough to run some basic CAD software for making your designs.
(End email quoted text)

Does this seem sufficient to get the computer that is powerful enough?
(Sorry no credit is given to quotes… It was for the sake of the email)

Do you get any error messages when you’re trying to run Ground Control?

Upon trying to launch it says unable to get window, abort. It says that very momentarily before it shuts the black box window down.
