The tricky part is that it has to be the same diameter as the dewalt router and have the same (or longer) length of router body that we can attach to.

bottom brackets so they can be adjusted for a snug fit on any router, then we
can bulk up the router to the arms independently of holding the router at the
ends)

it would be good to have an option to get motors with longer power leads. or
have the motors plug into the sensor boards so they can use the ethernet cables
(which can be any length) since the I2C interface only uses a few of the pins.

I don’t think it would be too much trouble at all to offer motors with longer wires if we need them. There is a large MOQ for the motors themselves, but I think that we could get a small number with longer wires made if we need that.

Tbh I’ve got some 22AWG in black and red and I’m extending mine and sleeving with mesh as they need to be 50-60mm longer if you’re using a different PCB support for a non Dewalt router

(The easiest solution, if you can solder, is to change the right angle XT60 to this upright XT60. Then only a small hole in the cap is needed. Maybe I will try this out after the first working cuts!)

edit: This won’t work. The diameter of the soldering pins is way to big on the upright XT60s.

@bar What is the diameter of the through holes in the PCB?

Now you are talking some serous modifications.

The holes in the PCB are 2.6mm in diameter and 7.2mm apart.

I already found out, that the holes are to small. It won’t fit.

Did you already use the Bosch router in the Maslow 4?

For those in Australia. The Dewalt D24200 router series is not available. The closest is the D26204K-XE which is a kit with router and extras. Cost is around $669.00 AUD at most retailers. However I found one retailer in who has it at $589.00 AUD.

Total tools had it for $589 too when I bought it but looks like it’s gone up again. The most annoying thing is a huge amount of waste… it comes in a nice big plastic hard case, the plunge base, fixed base, and accessories that are all useless.

you need a router that’s <=69mm in diameter for just over 102mm of the body.
(most trim/palm routers should satisfy this)

In the US the kobalt router is 67mm diameter for ~100mm of it’s length and it
can be made to work.

If you went with a chinese spindle like this that’s 52mm diameter,

you then have a significant amount of space to fill between them, this could be
with a solid bushing, or that is enough space that you could put bearings
between them and reduce the friction involved.

they don’t need to be fancy purchased bearings, a flat layer, then a bunch of
8mm diameter rollers would be all that’s needed

you just need solid bushings for the top and bottom (or print a replacement for
them)

Got the maslow4 today in australia but scared the price of dewalt router here!!! More than $600!!! Anyone can design a 3D print part to fit the maslow 4 to a makita router???

There are a couple done already but you need a sleeve to fit the diameter. I’ve used a £15/$30 Chinese clone as a test unit, and a piece of downpipe with a couple of bits of foam tape to stop it moving on the inside. Seems pretty strong and wasn’t expensive.

I’m redesigning the base / bridge but did see someone print one already that also replaces the bottom plate with a flat one - I’ll see if I can find

a quick search shows they are 65mm in diametter. look at the kobalt router
thread (which is 67mm diameter) the same approaches will work.

you can use the tape like I did, or you can 3d print a cylinder (with a slot in
it so it can tighten) that is 65mm on the inside and 69mm on the outside, or
just find some plastic that’s 1 or 2mm thick and wrap it around the router.

it doesn’t need any engineering, just something to take up the space.

For anybody in the UK who wants a cheap option… I was about to go out and buy a DeWalt router but I’ve been and measured my router and it’s 65mm and only £52, Link below

I think this will be sufficient with a 3D printed sleeve which I’ll draw up and put on here. Also looking at the top it seems it should be pretty straight forward for a PCB mount design. Again I’ll do one of these and send the file if it works for those interested.



I noticed the controll is in an awkward position but I reckon I can make this accessable somehow. When I get my Maslow (hopefully next week) I’ll get working on it and hopefully save some of you folk some pennies.

how long is the cylinder part of that router? it needs to be 4 inches long (or
very close to it)

Oh bugger… 3.5 inches about. Could this be sorted with a longer sleeve?
