Z-axis motor setup set pin not great

I have the Maslow CNC kit from Makermade.

The settings and motor all generally seem to work, but ever since I installed it I’ve had issues with the set pin (which is the apparently the only thing holding it all together) falling out or slipping.

It’s now doing nothing useful in particular.

Has anyone else experienced this? It’s been mildly infuriating and I’d love to love the z-axis but I can’t yet. Are there alternative ideas or ways to attach the router?

that orange button is a wear item on those routers (which were not really
designed for this sort of use), you can order replacements or people have 3d
printed them (it’s been long enought that finding the thread with the 3d pritned
part would not be trivial)

I designed a 3d printed part to replace that mechsnism, but never refined it
much

I got a tap to clean up the thread, and had to file the plastic a bit to get it
to fit the router nicely

good printer tuning should handle the thread.

Oh! That’s definitely interesting and I’m now wondering if I should replace that part…
but I was actually talking about this bit where the motor connects to the thread.

ahh, that’s a setscrew, not a pin, just tighten it with the right size hex key
and put a drop of loctite or nail polish on it to keep it from working lose
(although that will probably mean you will have trouble ever taking it apart if
you need to)

Oh my gosh so simple :person_facepalming:

Thank you!

I’ve lost the one I had though in the dust of my workshop so now I need the part… I’ll be trying to get a parts list
