Apologies if I’m missing it in the kickstarter. What are the actual differences in 4.1 vs 4.0? Last week I ordered the control board & encoders with the new connector, so sounds like I’d just need the $35 option. But what are the specific “hardware upgrades”?
Thanks!
$60 - 4.1 Upgrade For Maslow4 backers that want to fully upgrade their machines. These ship first to make sure that the community, who’s feedback is critical to making Maslow better, are the first to benefit.
$35 - 4.1 Hardware Only Upgrade For Maslow4 backers that have already upgraded the control boards and encoders on their machines and only want to upgrade the remaining hardware.
I am interested too. I understand three are new belt guards in tThe Not Shop (I printed mine), but wonder what else may have been improved. Perhaps I should hold off a bit on the JST upgrade while things are all apart.
Yes, you are spot on there, the Hardware Only option sounds right for you. Its got
-all new star drive screws and wrench, in case you were stripping the hex drives ones
-new arm shells, new idler gears, and more bearings to help prevent jamming
-precision cut linear rods, in case you had to shim the support risers
-new more protective belt guards
-a new fan with screw holes that match all the other screws
We are working on adding a summary page to the website too that will include all the details, but thanks for bringing this up.
Hi. I still have my Maslow 4.0 in a box . Im interested in get the $60 upgrade . Can’t find the link to buy it. Can you please help me. Thank you in advance
@bar My thoughts on what would be most useful to me as an ‘upgrade package’. It’s largely the things that I cannot make/modify for myself.
JST-XH - Complete Kit - Controller Board, Encoder Boards x4, Encoder Wires x4
preferably the wires are a little longer for doing things like mounting the controller board off to the side.
Star Drive Screws (ie Torx)
Idler Gear Bearings - Complete Set - New Idler Gears x4, Bearingsx8, New Arm Halves x8
Cooling Fan Mount - This one is a maybe, because if there’s a step file for it, then maybe 3D printing it is a good option.
Not needed for me, but maybe specifying these as addons?
Enlarged Belt Guards - Full Set of 4 - Not needed if you can 3D print
Precision Cut Linear Rods - Full Set of 2 - Not needed if you have a grinder (angle and/or bench)
We will have all of the updated parts available a-la-carte in the shop once we can get ahold of them ourselves. We just need to do a big initial order to cover the costs of the molds and meet minimum order quantities so it should be possible to mix and match just what you need.
That being said the US warehouse charges us more than the factory to put the parts in the box and ship it out so it might actually be cheaper to get it all in one box even if you don’t need absolutely every one of the parts.
We are going to try to ship the upgrade kits first, so our current users can get started incorporating them. I think its still going to be a January ETA though, we will keep you posted in our weekly updates
hi @bar, the same issue of EU is appearing with the kickstarter. The $60 upgrade is right for me but it’s then a further $50 delivery, PLUS who knows what of import charges.
Will there be a way of cutting out the middleman of the USA and get these directly from you but from China?
I’ve just looked at the kickstarter and I can’t see being able to order some extra stuff such as new belts for those whose belts were chewed up by the 4.0 design. That would be useful for those upgrading.
Unfortunately that $50 is the cost for us to ship directly to you from China. Shipping directly from the factory should help reduce the cost of import charges, but the shipping is expensive for us. For the upgrade kits the cost of the kit and the cost of the shipping are pretty much our costs (we aren’t trying to make money on them) so we can’t really lower the cost and still be able to afford to have the parts made.
Thanks for that info @bar.
Can you find out from the shippers what the expected import charges will be to the EU.
I think you might have to play around with the classification of the parts to reduce the charges.
Also, any chance of being able to order replacement belts at the same time? My M4 is working but the belts got a little bit chewed up while trying to get it to work.
Thanks very much for your work. It’s much appreciated.
We’ve found that the key to getting this kind of thing done is keeping it simple so it makes a huge difference to us to minimize the number of variables, but all of the update parts will be available from our website a la carte after the kickstarter if you want to customize what’s in the box
I completely understand @bar’s point of keeping things as simple as possible. Though I also agree that bundling belts would be nice too. Mostly because I also need to get new belts at this point, but want to wait for the new encoders and better belt guard. I’ll order some closer to the kickstarter fulfillment that way I won’t be taking everything apart multiple times.
