I just backed the Maslow 4.1 Kickstarter campaign and want to make sure I understood it correctly. I supported the full upgrade, $85 am I understanding that with that support I will be mailed an upgrade kit to completely upgrade my Maslow 4? I only ask cause on the Kickstarter page there was no place to input an address for shipping…Will Bar or someone from the Maslow team be contacting me to get my address?
Yes, you are correct. The full upgrade kit ($60 + shipping) includes everything that you need to upgrade your kit from Maslow 4 to 4.1.
Once we have the parts all manufactured we will send out a survey from Kickstarter requesting everyone’s addresses. They only let us send it once so we want to do it right before we ship incase someone moves addresses or something. It will arrive as an email in your inbox.
Hi Bar, Anna, I am just wondering if there’s any way I can add two or three of the new 1/8 bits to my 4.1 Kickstarter Reward? It’d be very convenient to not need to pay additional postage and fees for shipping to EU of such cheap and small items!
EDIT: But just realised that is probably not possible if the upgrade is shipping directly to me from China - sorry!
Since you got many times the amount you were shooting for on the Kickstarter, I’m wondering if you have any interesting plans above and beyond the ones you originally had. Obviously a fair chunk will be going towards backer rewards, but any other tweaks, innovations, etc. that you’re planning? If it’s going towards keeping the lights on, that’s cool too.
Great question! The main goal is just to keep the lights on and keep innovating. There’s a lot of work to be done on generally improving the firmware and user experience. We’ve got some exciting stuff on the CAD/CAM side in the works and ultimately we’d love to be able to do a version the the machine that comes not as a kit…that being said it seems like a lot of money, but after all the expenses that go into shipping the kits it’s really just enough money to keep the lights on for six months or so which isn’t too much longer than it will take to ship the KS kits so we’re not planning to do anything crazy
Does it still look like sometime in February for delivery? From the KS update it looks like things are going pretty well, so I’m guessing there’s no reason it would need to be pushed back. I realize things could change if something comes up, just want to know if the timeline currently still looks good.
FWIW, I work in IT so I know about timelines changing with changing conditions and priorities. I’m not expecting a solid date. I’m just wondering if the estimate still looks good now that things are in motion.
February is still 100% the goal. We’ll keep you updated every Wednesday if anything comes up that seems like it could impact that. It’s a tight timeline, but we’ve done it before so it should be possible.
I’m trying to prep for my delivery so I can crack on as soon as it arrives. I’ve been looking through the forum and to be honest, as a noob entering at 4.1, I’m quite confused.
There is tonnes of info but so much that is more relevant to older models. The wiki for one seems to have loads of info but not very relevant? Is it just me not knowing what I’m looking at/for?
I still need to get my router but now I’ve started looking on the forum, is the dewalt still the best option? I have a 3D printer so can print anything needed for other routers but will be buying a dedicated one anyway so I would want to buy the best option.
On the 3D printing side, I want to print any upgrades in advance but not sure which ones I don’t need with a 4.1
Laslty, (sorry, massive post), I have a load of unistrut and will be making a vertical frame that can lift up to the ceiling to be put away, any advice for unistrut frames?
Hi Matt, Yes there is a lot of information out there, probably about 7 years worth at this point. Almost all of the info on our website pertains to the Maslow 4 and the Maslow 4.1 upgrade. So that is definitely the best place to start.
You shouldn’t need to 3D print any of the upgrades if you are getting the 4.1. I do recommend printing the Button Pusher which helps with changing the bit. It can be found here: The Not Shop — Maslow Its not impossible to change the bit without it, but it will be kind of annoying unless you have tiny hands.
As for the frame, we have a whole page dedicated to that here: Building the Frame — Maslow and there are even some 3D printable Unistrut connectors in the not shop as well.
We still recommend the DeWalt router as a starting point. The appeal of other routers is that they are cheaper, or more available depending on where in the world you are. If you go with an alternate router, then yes, you may need to print additional parts to make sure it fits
Hello Maslow team,
As a soon (i.e., tomorrow) to be retired director of technology development with over 40 years’ experience with designing, building and programming various automated systems and softwares, I am finally ready to build the cnc router I’ve had on the (way) back burner for decades.
I’ve come close to pulling the trigger over the last few years, after finding your original machine, but between still working and traveling, and the lack of 3D which I thought was so important to me, it just hasn’t happened.
Now is different. My primary use case will be cutting panels for stitch and glue boats, which the M4 will definitely do. I’ve noticed on your forums that at least one guy is doing that.
Long intro for a short question: is waiting another week going to make a big difference in delivery lead time?
I’m aware that you’re not shipping kits to new customers before February, which is fine by me, but do you have a backlog that might push it back by more than a week or two?
Obviously I have work to do to prepare, but I’d like to have the machine fully operational by mid March.
Thanks,
Joe
I missed the Kickstarter and wanted to get the kit and upgrade instructions for taking my 4.0 to 4.1 … are all the components available in the shop? Is there a post with instructions on how to perform the upgrade? Thanks!

Hi @bar, I meant to back the Kickstarter 4.1 but was having problems with my email and login to Kickstarter, so missed the end date.
Is it still possible to purchase without it going via the USA? It’s for Spain, so the delivery is $50 if I remember correctly but perhaps it will be more outside the Kickstarter.
@bar I see that the 4.1 full upgrade kits are shipping soon. I’m wondering if you have any extras to sell? I backed the 4.1 Kickstarter for the 4.1 kit, and I wanted to get the upgrade kit for my 4.0 as well, but the Kickstarter campaign somehow wouldn’t allow me to back two rewards levels. All the best
We will have all of the 4.1 update parts in our shop as soon as we get them from the factory, but they will ship from the US. At this point the factory has packed all of the update kits and delivered them to the freight forwarder so it’s tough for us to add anything to that order at this point
